UVERPOOL'S British bantar ht
champion GARY DAVIES has been
forced to pull out of his defence
against former holder IAN NAPA In
Brentwood next week (September
11). The likeable yet unlucky Davies
has recently suffered a viral infection
and a torn calf muscle.
"I was dizzy on the running
machine," said Davies. "And then,
when I stretched, I fell over.
"I was on antibiotics so missed
two weeks of training, but I also
did my leg. I think I put too much
too'soon into the fitness training."
Davles-Napa has been
rescheduled for the October 23
Maloney show featuring RYAN
RHODES-JAMIE MOORE. The
Brentwood show still goes ahead,
with JOHN McDERMOTT'S English
title defence against TYSON FURY
topping.

PRIZEFIGHTER has just gone big
time. IHatchroom liave decided to
move their latest instalment of the
series - a heavyweight edition on
October 2, featuring DANNY
WILUAMS, AUDLEY HARRISON,
MICHAEL SPROn SCOTT
GAMMER, COLEMAN BARRETT,
DANNY HUGHES, SCOTT BELSHAW
and MICHAEL HOLDEN - across
London to the ExCel Arena from
the far smaller York Hall.
All 1,100 tickets for the Bethnal
Green venue sold out in two days
and the subsequent demand has
been so high, Matchroom will set
the ExCel up to hold 5,000.
The Board have asked Holden,
out of action for six years and
having lost his last three, to
take a four-rounder before the
tournament. That happens tonight
{Friday, September 4) in
Middlesbrough.

UNFORTUNATELY cruiserweight
DAVID DOLAN has suffered a back
injury and has pulled out of his
fight with former British and
European champion TERRY
DUNSTAN, set for tonight (Friday,
September 4) in Middlesbrough.
The match could be rescheduled
for Matchroom's September 18
show in Bethnal Green but if Dolan
is not ready in time, Dunstan could
instead meet fellow Prizefighter
first-round loser MICKY STEEDS.
That show is due to be headlined
by AJOSE OLUSEGUN defending his
British and Commonwealth lightwelterweight
titles against former
champ LENNY DAWS but our
sources indicate that Olusegun,
with a WBC eliminator planned for
October 9 in Romania, will give up
the domestic belt. That could give
another former champ, BARRY
MORRISON, scheduled to appear
on the undercard, the chance to
meet Daws for the vacant strap.

THE Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders
(5th Battalion, The Royal Regiment of
Scotland) staged an Inter-Company
competition on July 23.
According to keen BN reader Harry
Doherty, who was invited to attend, "It
was an enjoyable evening with standing
room only and a great atmosphere.
"The boxers had only a limited
training period but get the help of
Aylesham ABC and its trainers."
Former world featherweight Barry
McGuigan was there to receive an
award.
