BERNARD DUNNE'S promoter and
manager Brian Peters had been
hoping for a voluntary defence for his
man, the WBA super-bantam champ,
in September before taking on
Thailand's WBA interim champion
Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym
later this year or early next. But the
WBA insisted he would have to
fight Kratingdaenggym in
September or forfeit the title, so they
meet on September 26 at the 0 2 in
Dublin.

AHMET ONER, the CEO of German
promotional outfit Arena-Box, was
sliot in Hamburg earlier this week.
Oner was leaving the office of a
business partner when two men
fired at him three times. The wouldbe
assassins had waited for Oner
behind his car when a security light
exposed them and they started to
shoot. One bullet hit Oner in his left
thigh before he and his two
companions could get back into the
building to call the police. The
shooters fled the scene.
Oner underwent surgery two
hours after the assault and the
bullet was successfully removed.
"I am okay," stated Oner
after the operation. "I just cannot
understand how somebody could go
this far and try to kill me. This is
insane."

HAWAIIAN PUNCH" Brian Viloria
fights for only the fourth time (in 28
professional bouts) in his home state
tomorrow (Saturday, August 29), when
he defends his IBF light-flyweight title
against average Mexican Jesus Iribe.
It may seem strange to say a
two-time 'world' champion - Viloria
previously held the WBC crown at this
weight - has not fulfilled his potential
but the Hawaian was a stand-out
amateur, winning the 1999 World
title in the unpaid code.

TOMMY STUBBS is clear about
what he wants from the World
Championships: "The gold medal,
nothing else."
The 19-year-old may is the
youngest and least experienced on
the GB team, but struck gold at the
European Unions in June.
He had the one bout, a 15-3 win
over Poland's Lukasz Maszczyk, who
reached the Olympic quarter-finals
(lost to Paddy Barnes).
"My style was too awkward
for him," explains Stubbs.
"I'm unpredictable. I just tried that
style when I started boxing and it
worked, so I kept it."
