GLENN McCRORY, former IBF
cruiserweight champ, has taken
out a trainer's licence. McCrory
plans to train pro fighters at his
Newbiggin Hall Gym, Newcastle.
"My dream's always been to be
the first world champion from the
north east and then find the next
one," said the amiable Geordie.
"I spoite to Amir Khan recently and
he told me I'd taught him more in
10 minutes than in his previous
eight weeks."
Two years ago Glenn set up the
Glenn McCrory International School
of Boxing at New Biggin Hall for
Northumbria ABA boxing club,
which has recently been named as
an official training venue for the
London 2012 Olympics.
He already has JOHN "RAZOR"
WATSON and COURTNEY CUFT
boxing pro.
"I've had meetings with Frank
Warren," said McCrory. "He's
happy to start promoting up here."
McCrory announced some
time ago he would be working with
the other Frank, Maloney, to
promote shows in the region, but
Maloney has confirmed he has no
plans to do so at present.

COLOMBIAN super-middleweight
Fulgencio Zuniga, who last lost a
unanimous decision to Denis Inkin
in September for the vacant WBO
title in Germany, has lodged a
formal protest at the result.
Inkin won by scores of 118-110,
117-111 and 116-112. Zuniga and
his promoter Alfredo Marchio claim
that Zuniga won the fight
comfortably. Both have written in
protest to WBO president Francisco
Valcarcel and Marchio also hopes
to address the matter at the WBO
Convention next week in Hollywood,
Florida. Marchio also stated that
one judge, Denny Nelson, who
scored the 118-110, is the father
of the referee Mark Nelson, which
could be a conflict of interest.

Haye drops down
IN RATINGS changes from the
WBC convention, DAVID HAYE has
gone down fron No. 4 to No. 5 at
heavyweight, RENDALL MUNROE
goes up to No. 10 from No. 12 at
super-bantam and JAMIE MOORE
goes from No. 15 to No. 10 at
light-middle.

This was the culmination of an event
used to help choose the Irish squad for
the European Senior Championships in
Liverpool (November 6-15).
Moore landed two sweet lefts in
round one and two, but Ahern forced
him to take two counts in the second
stanza and the contest was stopped
with the Dubliner 13-2 up.
