against former champion VITALI
KLITSCHKO could be coming to
England in October. Sports Networif
head Frank Warren is currently in
negotiations with Don King and
Dino Duva, both of whom work
with Peter, to have the fight top a
bill that would feature potential
future foes for the winner, Audley
Harrison and Matt Skelton, on the
undercard.
Skelton's mandated challenge
for the European title against
Italian Paolo Vidoz could be the
chief support.
As for Harrison, he must first
get past Martin Rogan in a fight
postponed from July that has been
added to the big MEN bill In
Manchester on September 6.
The Sports Network show, headed
by the Alex Arthur-Nicky Cook WBO
super-featherweight clash, also
features the Paul Smith-Steve
Bendall rematch, Amir Khan, Derry
Mathews against Steven Bell,
Matthew Hail, Anthony Crolla,
Denton Vassell, Stephen Smith,
Matthew Macklin and the English
super-featherweight clash between
champion Femi Fehintola and Steve
Foster Jnr.

RYAN RHODES, British light-middleweight
champion, has been
nominated by the WBC to face
quality South African VINCENT
VUMA for their International title.
Vuma [be/ow], 25-2 (14) was the
man who stopped Mark Thompson
in eight rounds last year to win the
vacant title but Rhodes, unlike the
Heywood man, is experienced and
a big light-middle.
Bids are set for August 2 9 but
Rhodes' camp, led by Hayemaker
Promotions, are trying to negotiate
a deal. If the fight comes off,
Rhodes is confident.
"He's a typical African," the
likeable Sheffield man said. "He
comes forward throwing punches
all t h e time, but he's not a big, big
puncher.
"He's rated No. 11 by the
WBC [Rhodes is No. 36] so it's a
fantastic ranking fight and a great
opportunity."

JEFFREY DYNEVOR, the first
indigenous Australian to win a
Commonwealth Games (then Empire
Games) gold medal, was buried on
July 2 3 in the Queensland town of
Cherbourg.
Dynevor, who was 70, died earlier
in the month. He had suffered a
stroke several years earlier.
Dynevor made history at the 1962
Commonwealth Games in Perth as
the first Aboriginal Australian to win
a gold medal at the event - in the
bantamweight division.
Born in the south-western
Queensland town of Thargomindah,
he moved to Cherbourg as a boy
when his parents were forcibly sent
to a mission.
Dynevor never fought as a
pro but remains the only Aboriginal
winner of a Commonwealth Games
boxing gold medal.

WELL-RESPECTED Londoner Billy
Phillips will be in Beijing as Great
Britain's first Olympic referee/judge
in 20 years, since Cdr Rod Robertson
at Seoul.
Phillips, 59, missed out on Athens
four years ago but has gone to eight
European and six World championships
(in various age groups) plus two editions
of the Commonwealth Games: Kuala
Lumpur (1998) and Manchester (2002).
"I stepped back from Melbourne
[2006 Commonwealth Games], because
I'd done a final in Manchester and
[fellow English ref] George Brugnoli
hadn't," said Billy, who lives in
Hornchurch, Essex.
