MANNY PACQUIAG'S fight with
former WBC super-bantamweight
champ Oscar Larios is back on in the
Philippines.
But the date has been switched
from May 20 to either June 18 or
July 2, although this week Marco
Antonio Barrera said he is willing to
put his WBC 9st 4lbs title on the line
against the Filipino in a return.
If Barrera's offer is accepted,
Pacquiao-Larios, set originally for the
May date in Manila - until the
political upheaval and declaration of a
state of emergency - could suffer.
RICARDO MAYORGA really tested
Oscar De La Hoya's patience last week.
The Nicaragua!!, who nearly came
to blows with De La Hoya when
filming a promotional video in Los
Angeles, baited Oscar repeatedly
during a promotional tour that went
from Los Angeles to Chicago to New
York. They fight on May 6.
"I'm not a talker," said De La Hoya.
"I've never hated anyone I've fought.
But I'm going to knock you out,"
he said turning to Mayorga.
FRENCH flyweight BERNARD INOM
boxes in Nice on March 17, his
first fight since December's brutal
llth-round stoppage loss to WBO
champion Omar Narvaez.
Opponent in this eight-rounder
is Romania's CHRISTIAN NICOLAE,
just 1-18 with eight losses by
stoppage or knockout.
Nlcolae (24), who boxes anyone
from flyweight to feather, has lost
his last 17. That includes five in
France, so the French Federation
(FFBI can't claim ignorance.
Inom, 32 and a former World
Amateur Champs silver medalist,
had won all 13 fights (five) early
before Narvaez. This is the sort of
match the FFB allow all too often.
