THE man who attacked Eamonn
Magee with batons walked free
from court last week after his
three-year jail term was suspended.
Craigavon Crown Court Judge
Patrick Markey QC told 54-year-old
Joseph Clarke he was suspending
the term because he had not been
the "initial aggressor".
Clarke pleaded guiKy to inflicting
grievous bodily harm, possessing a
weapon, a 3ft wooden baton and
causing criminal damage to a car.
Magee's career was feared over
because of the brutal attack in
2004.

Nelson fears his career is over following
a severe knee injury he suffered last
month training for a fight with Enzo
Maccarinelli.
The 39-year-old, a pro 20 years, told
the Sheffield Star. "I've got to get boxing
out of my head."
Severed tendons in the right knee
have left him immobile and contem- "
plating a life without boxing. "The
injury is wear and tear," he said. "It was
probably damaged a long time ago and
it's been slowly getting worse - and
what's happened is it's gone."
Surgeons have sewn his kneecap in
place but one has already told him his
career is over.
"I just filled up when he said that. It's
down to nature now," added Nelson on
whether he can ever fight again.
