one. He crashed on to the
domestic championship scene
in quicker time than manager
Frank Maloney had anticipated - this
was Graham's 17th fight (all wins) -
with a stunning second-round dismissal
of favoured STEVE MURRAY at the
Conference Centre.
Earl retained his Southern Area title in this
scheduled 12-rounder but, more importantly,
took a giant step closer to contesting the British
crown (this was also an eliminator) held by
Bradford's Bobby Vanzle.
Seeing as Vanzie is under orders to defend
against mandatory contender Jon Thaxton (see
pages 2-3), Earl may take an alternative route
to progress.

This bill-topper, over 10 rounds, was every
bit as enthralling as the preceding three fights
on Steve Wood's Sunday afternoon show in a
suite at Salford's rugby league stadium.
In the main event it was Nevins, from nearby
Levenshulme, who came out on top despite a
slow start against the Ingle fighter.
While Daniel's record doesn't make great
reading, many of his defeats have come after
he has taken fights at short notice and often
against heavier men.
But he had six weeks to prepare for this and
for five rounds it looked as though he could
come away with the title.
