, SIDELINED world light-welterweight champion
Kostya Tszyu and long-time trainer Johnny Lewis
could part company
Lewis doesn't make clear exactly why he would
be prepared to part ways with Ricky Hatton target
Tszyu, but a rift had taken place in the past that
involved - you guessed it - money
But even though the trainer said that matter has
been resolved, he could walk out on Tszyu before
or after Kostya defends next against old foe
Sharmba Mitchell.
Lewis felt the timing for Tszyu to retire was
perfect in January, when Kostya stopped Jesse
James Leija before his adopted home crowd in
Melbourne.
"It's very much his call, though," said Johnny
"There haven't been any signs he should get out,
but it's always good to do so before those signs
start to show.
"He's looking for three or four super-fights, but
one bad performance could change all that.
"I've enjoyed a good innings with Kostya. The
last thing you want is to stay in something you no
longer really want to do. I'll reassess things
towards the end of the year."
Lewis is the sort of man who doesn't have
contracts with his clients. "Money's not a
concern," he said. "But I'd walk away from
anything if I felt it was the right thing to do.
"We [Kostya and Lewis] have come to an
agreement on money It did get out of hand, but
now is fixed."
Tszyu is out of action, having torn his Achilles
tendon and had surgery to repair it. A November
' date for the Mitchell match may be optimistic.

IN ALL the fuss made over Kevin
Mitchell, another teenaged 2003
ABA Senior champion received
nowhere near as much publicity -
light-heavyweight JAMES BOYD.
But while ttie West Ham featherweight has
turned pro, aged still only 18, Boyd has chosen
to stay in the amateur ranks for the time being.
"I know all the media have made a lot of
Kevin, but for me James is better," says Brian
Oavles, Boyd's coach at the Donnington Ex-
Servicemen's club in Telford.
Davies bases that opinion on two points wins
last season scored by Mitchell over his boxer
Shaun Walton - on a West Ham club show in
November and in the ABA Northern semis in
March.

JUAN VALENZUELA, the
rambunctious Mexican
who keeps pulling off
"upsets", was much too
big and strong for BRIAN
ADAMS and bounced him on his
tush three times before Adams
refused to come out for the
seventh, claiming an injured right
hand.
