SCOTTISH champion SHAUN
ANDERSON (8st 9 l/41bs) stayed
on course for a British title shot after
securing a comfortable 80-74 points
win frwm referee Victor Lou^iUn in
an eight-twos against Birmingham's
perennial loser MARTY CHESTNUT
(8st ISlbs) on a Prince of Wales Hospice
charity show at the Forte Posthouse
Hotel.

THE pick of a solid undercard
is the iight-middieweight sixrounder
between Forest Hiil hope
SPENCER FEARON, 5-0, and Doncaster's
KASI KAIHAU. The Yorkshireman
wins as many as he loses,
and Fearon's better hand speed can
take him to a points win.
Former ABA bantamweight
champion STEPHEN GATES got
back on the winning trail with a victory
over Graham McGrath last
time out, and will surely work too
hard for Brough's CHRIS JICKELLS.
There ought to be plenty of support
for hard-hitting lightweight
prospect STEVE MURRAY, who lives
just a short way up the railway line
at Harlow. Murray impressed when
slopping Keith Jones on his debut
last month, and meets a selected
opponent tomorrow.

SHANE MOSLEY, generally accepted as the best lightweight in the
world and one of the most active champions also, is still a big win
away from becoming a major star. Victory on the undercard over Texan
veteran JESSE J A M K LEIJA, who earlier this year outpointed arch-rival
Azumah Nelson, will not elevate his status, but at least provide more clues
to the Californian's potential.
Leija, stopped in two by Oscar De La Hoya in December 1995 and overpowered
in six by the veteran Nelson in June 1996, is 32 and not expected
to provide Mosley, the IBF title-holder, with too much difficulty.
Several weeks ago Leija pulled out of a rematch with Gabe Ruelcis, with
whom he staged a magnificent 12-rounder in Las Vegas in 1994, because of
damstged ribs, but he appears to have made a miraculous recovery.
