PRINCE NASEEM HAMED and
his promoter Frank Warren
are aiming to add to his two
'world' featherweight titles,
but there is a determined
red-head from Sunderland to consider
first.
Billy Hardy, the No. 1 challenger
for Hamed's WBO title, is
anxious to meet the Prince, and
Tommy Gilmour, Hardy's promoter,
is stepping up his campaign for
force the fight.
• CHRIS SAUNDERS has pulled
out of his scheduled Central
Area welterweight title fight with
Derek Roche at Bradford. His
manager Brendan Ingle says he
has a British title return with
Kevin Lueshing on the table
instead.
Saunders also reportedly withdrew
from last week's show at
Bethnal Green when he was
briefly drafted in as a replacement
for the injured Colin Dunne.
RICHIE WOODHALL is committing
his future to the
super-middleweight division. The
former European and Commonwealth
middleweight champion
will consult a specialist about the
condition of his right elbow following
a second operation and
hopefully return to action in May.
"It killed me to make middleweight,"
said Woodhall, who
failed in a WBC tide bid against
American Keith Holmes in October.
