Alfonso Zamora was suffering from
gout and Bernabe "Baby" Vazquez had
retired from all boxing involvement.

LEGENDARY Julio Cesar Chavez
entered the Hilton ring while a
Mexican band blared dramatically, but
once the entrance was over, dangerman
Tony Martin nailed the onceinvincible
grand champion repeatedly
with overhand rights and had his face
flushed and left eye swollen badly
Chavez won a lopsided unanimous
10-round decision by 98-91 and 97-92
(twice). He claimed he was still in his
prime, but the 34-year-old was a shell
of what he was. Martin proved it.
