ALL the talk was about how
Emanuel Steward would bolster
OSCAR DE LA HOYAS right
hand, but it was the American's
vaunted left hook which crushed
Kenyan DANTD KAMAU in San
Antonio at the weekend.
De La Hoya's power was impresave,
but his defence looked slack
at times, especially when he tried
to finish his African rival off in the
second after flooring Kamau for
the first time. Kamau connected
with several dangerous right counters
which may have proved disastrous
had they come from De La
Hoya's rivals Ike Quartey and
Felix Trinidad. WBA and IBF
champions respectively.
O s ^ , standing a little upright
£md rigid, conceded the firk.
choosing to take a good look at his
African opponent, then went to
work in the second. The final left
hook was a belter.

STEVE FOSTER, the former Commonwealth and IBF Inter-continental
light-middleweight champion, has remained active since
announcing his retirement in May after losing to WBO champion
Ronald Wright.
Foster (above) will open the Viking Fitness Centre in October, a
10,000sq ft public leisure complex in association with Barry
Crowther of Fitness Group Pic, which will house a gym where
Foster will train fighters.
The facility - on the borders of Swinton and Worsley - includes
male and female steam rooms, sauna, aerobic rooms, a cardiovascular
centre, solarium and sunbeds.
• Foster will also turn his hand to TV, presenting his boxing
shows - called Viking hour of power - on Live TV. His next
show, at the Willows in Salford on Thursday (June 26), features
heavyweights ISRAEL AJOSE against MIKE HOLDEN, which will be
shown a week later on the cable channel.

LEEDS light-welterweight STEVE TUCKETT
stepped up to welterweight for the day and
outpointed Bradford's persistent DONOVAN
DAVEY (lOst SIbs) over six-twos. Referee Chris
Kelly scored 59 1/2-58.
Tuckett (lOst 7lbs) looked much smaller physically,
but took over more as the fight developed.
Davey landed some decent shots in the
first and made Tuckett hold in the second with
a right hook. Tuckett kept on the move and then
stood his ground from the third as things hotted
up.
Tuckett was the busier from then on, keeping
Davey under pressure and systematically moving
clear. A clash of heads left Tuckett with a
slight nick on the side of the right eye in the
fifth, but they stood and traded punches in the
last round of an entertaining battle.
