PAUL WEIR attempts to restore pride and win back the WBO
light-flyweight title when he challenges South African Baby
Jake Matlala in a double-header at the Everton Park
Sports Centre tomorrow (April 13).

STEVE FOSTER'S first promotion got off to a successful
start at the Willows with an excellent three-fight show.
The IBF Inter-Continental light-middleweight champion
hopes to become a major player in the promotion and management
of North West boxers along with Steve Wood, his
partner at Viking International Promotions. Three more
shows are planned later this
year and Foster still hopes
for a 'world' title fight in the
future.

T WAS one of the most striking moments of 1995. Manchester's Carl Thompson,
Britain's top cruiserweight, was on the verge o( winning the vacant WBO cruiserweight
title against German Ralf Rocchigiani and then it happened.
With Carl leading on all three scorecards going into the 11th round, a dislocated
right shoulder sustained in the previous round put paid to his dreams of "world' title
glory. Tantalisingly close to becoming champion, the Phoenix Camp fighter had to
rebuild his career, knowing in his heart that he faced a long and difficult road back.
