Boxing News history

SOUTHERN Area featherweight champion Jimmy Revie (Stockwell) completed a
hat-trick of wins over Jarrow's George McGurk with a points win over eight lively
rounds at the Midlands Sporting Club.

IT IS only a short few years ago since Ruben Olivares was the coming boy in the
liantamweight division. An ambitious, hungry youngster cutting his way to a
world title like a combine harvester through a cornfield, striking fear in the hearts
of the established fighters and thirsting for the top.

I WILL believe Bugner is entitled to another fight with Muhammad Ali when I
have seen him beat Ken Norton, Joe Frazier, and George Foreman. If, as Andy
Smith thinks, Joe could have finished George Foreman off in five rounds, then
why not let him prove it, but let us remember that Foreman has already been
"bruised" by Ali and is not, perhaps, the man he was before fighting Ali. Time will
tell.

CHRISTY ELLIOTT needs no introduction to the fight fans of the British Isles,
especially those from his native Dublin, who have been thrilled by his exciting
style for a number of years.

NEW YORK'S Madison Square Garden boxing bosses are trying to build Vito
Antuofermo, Italian-born middleweight, into a major attraction. Tonight (Friday)
the Garden features Vito in his biggest fight so far, an intriguing 10-round main
event with former five-time world champ Emile Griffith

JAPAN'S Guts Ishimatsu and California-based Mexican, Rodolfo Gonzalez, fight
it out in a rematch for the WBC lightweight title in Osaka next Thursday, while
Britain's Ken Buchanan stands in the wings waiting to take the winner.

HEAVYWEIGHT Dave McCann celebrated his England
place against the Bulgarians with a good win on a
supporting bout to the Staffordshire Police championships.

EUROPEAN heavyweight champion Joe Bugner can
expect a real battle when he meets American Boone
Kirkman at the Albert Hall on December 3, according
to promoter Mike Barrett.
