THE ABU heavyweight champion Proud Kilimanjaro
retained his title before 10,000 fans in Harare's
Rufaro Stadium in Zimbabwe with a points victory
over his fellow countryman Kid Power on July 27.
The "Man Mountain" won the early rounds and
had Power badly hurt in the third, but the lighter
challenger survived and the decision was close.
Kilimanjaro, who had a 23 kg weight advantage,
was having his first bout since the Zimbabwe board
lifted his suspension for fighting Neil Malpass in
Glasgow without permission.

P I N K L O N THOMAS
make good use of a thudding
left jab to take a
majority 12-round decision
over Tim Witherspoon and
win the WBC heavyweight
title at the Riviera casino
hotel.
Judge Hal Miller scored
the fight a draw with 114
points each but judge
Duane Ford had Thomas
ahead by 116-112 and judge
Dalby Shirley had it 115-
112 in favour of Thomas.

THERE was no easy comeback for Tyrone Trice, the
young Detroit light-welter, after his one-round defeat
against Fred Pendleton on June 20.
Instead, 20-year-old Trice went in with, on paper, his
toughest opponent in the experienced and hard-hitting
Tyrone Moore, of Louisville, Kentucky.
But Trice rose to the occasion and outpointed Moore
over 10 hard rounds at Las Vegas on August 15 as part of
Don King's monthly show for American cable TV
channels.
