DEFENDING champion Tom Collins retained his European
light-heavyweight crown with a thrilling ninth round
knockout of West Ham's brave Mark Kaylor at the Grand
Hall — and now looks forward to a crack at one of the rival
world champions.
It was announced beforehand that the winner would
meet either WBC champion Don Lalonde or WBA
counterpart Virgil Hill — and Collins' manager Trevor
Callighan isn't worried which.
"All I want is a world title bout for Tom," he said. "He's
earned it."

Kaylor's touch of class
• HAPPY retirement to Mark Kaylor, who had a go as an
inexperienced kid in Moscow and was, perhaps, unlucky to be
a contemporary of old pros Tony Sibson and Tom Collins.
Mark was always a gutsy and often guile performer — a real
promoter's man! He regretted the pre-fight scuffle with Errol
Christie and exonerated Christie of blame at the Board's
hearing. A touch of class.

DENNIS ANDRIES , game but outclassed in losing his World Boxing
Council light-heavyweight title to Thomas Hearns in March of last year,
gets an unexpected chance to j u m p right back into a top contender ' s role
when he meets f o r m e r I B F champion Bobby Czyz in a nationally televised
10-round fight at Bally's Park Place casino hotel, Atlantic City on Sunday
(May 22).

THE Rocky-like dream of Chicago's amputee
cruiserweight Craig Bodzianowski came to an
end before a packed house in this suburb of
Chicago as he lost a majority 10-round decision
to Alfonzo Ratliff in their return fight.

JOE  SAYATOVICH is hardly a household name in
world boxing, but it is a name that should be noted,
because Joe is gradually building a reputation for
himself in California.
His stable of boxers includes no world champions
at the moment, but he has a handful of good fighters
who are getting better with each fight.
