IN A N O T H E R year of exciting action,
upsets, controversial decisions and
dramatic knockouts in overseas rings,
one fight stands out above the rest: the
thrilling, cliff-hanger punching match in
which Thomas "Hit M a n " Hearns knocked
out Argentine strong man Juan
Domingo Roldan.

IT'S going to be interesting to see which way
Evander Holyfield moves after his easier-thanexpected
win over Dwight Muhammad Qawi,
who basically surrendered after being dropped
for the second time in round four.
Holyfield's handler, Lou Duva, is ebullient
on his man's chances against heavyweight
champion Mike Tyson.

ITALY'S Gianfranco Rosi sensationally retained his World Boxing Council lightmiddleweight
title by overwhelming former champion Duane Thomas in the seventh of
their scheduled 12-rounder.
And now the 30-year-old Rosi is expected to defend in three months' time against
Donald Curry, the former undisputed world welterweight champion, who outclassed
former WBC light-middle champ Lupe Aquino over 12 rounds on the same show as the
Rosi-Thomas fight.
But this night belonged to Rosi, roared on by his Italian countrymen in a fight held in the
early hours of the morning to suit prime-time TV requirements in the United States, where
the show was screened live by ESPN.

IT W O U L D be nice to think we could have more unified
titles this year — nice, but unlikely. Both Carlos De Leon
and Evander Holyfield have their eyes on Mike Tyson,
Thomas Hearns will be hoping that Marvin Hagler or Sugar
Ray Leonard will return and make him rich, talk of a Lloyd
Honeyghan vs Marlon Starling bout is a dead duck, Julio
Cesar Chavez against Jose Luis Ramirez is a possibility,
but the Duva's would never risk Vinnie Pazienza against
Chavez and there are no really big money unification fights
around in the other divisions.
