Gatti-Dorin problem
• THE fate of Canadian promoters Interbox, fighting
against bankruptcy, could affect Leonard Dorin's proposed
summer slam against Arturo Gatti.
Dorin is under contract to Interbox and scheduled to
face Gatti in Atlantic City on July 24. But with Interbox
filing for bankruptcy protection, the contract for the
fight may not be enforceable.
Main Events, who promote Gatti, are ready to seek
alternative opponents should the Dorin fight fall through.

Promoter Toney
JAMES TONEY has followed the Klitschkos and set
up his own company to co-promo1e his fights.
"Lights Out Boxing" will work with Goossen-Tutor. It
will enable Toney to get a larger percentage of his purses.
Next up for James, once he has recovered from his
Achilles tendon injury, is likely to be a challenge to
new WBO heavy king Lamon Brewster.

Rooney jailed
• KEVIN ROONEY, former trainer to Mike Tyson, was
sentenced to eight months in jail in upstate New York
for public drunkenness and violating his probation.
Rooney, 47, was reportedly "drunk as a skunk" after
urinating in the street in Main Street, Catskill, New York
in February. He must serve at least five months before
he becomes eligible for parole.

Winky promotional
riddle cleared up
• THE dispute over who is going to promote
RONALD "WINKY" WRIGHT has been
settled. Lou DiBella, who signed Wright recently
before Ronald put his signature to a contract
for Don King, has agreed to release the world
light-middleweight champion in return for
cash compensation.

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario-April 17
• MANNING GALLOWAY did it again. The
veteran former champion, fresh off his
upset win over Olympic silver medallist
Ricardo Williams earlier in the month,
split decisioned local light-middleweight
BRYON MACKIE over eight.
Southpaw Galloway was down in the
seventh but has no right to be fighting
as well as he does at 43 and after a paid
career which started in 1978.

Boyd goes pro
• JAMES BOYD, prolific amateur
out of Telford's Donnington Ex-
Serviceman's ABC, is joining the
paid ranks with Errol Johnson's
West Midland unit.
Boyd is a quality fighter but
apparently an indifferent trainer.
New manager/coach Johnson
could have his work cut out.
Having said that, if a fighter of
his ability does buckle down, just
think what Boyd could achieve...
