Manny vacates
MANNY PACQUIAO doesn't have a trainer, but
the world's No. 1 featherweight and Marco Antonio
Barrera conqueror has been told to get ready to
fight in May.
The Filipino southpaw, who stopped Barrera in
11 rounds last November, recently vacated the IBF
super-bantamweight title.
There is no confirmation of Pacquiao's
opponent, but his representatives are working
towards making a smashing bout with WBA/IBF
featherweight champ Juan Manuel Marquez
There had been talk of Pacquiao boxing WBC
super-bantam champ Oscar Larios - and the WBC
gave their blessing for the winner, if the match
could be made, to take on whoever prevails
between Michael Brodie and Injin Chi for the
vacant featherweight belt in Manchester on
April 10.

Klitschko lawsuit
THE Klitschko brothers, Vitali and Wladimir,
have filed a lawsuit against long-time promoter
Klaus-Peter Kohl.
Although Kohl's promotional firm Universum is
expected to stage the next fights for each brother,
the heavyweights claim their contract runs out at
the end of April.
Kohl disputes this, insisting the contract
contains a clause prolonging the agreement if
either boxer is injured for a long period.
Under Universum, the brothers have each
won the WBO title and become major names
worldwide.

Nelson claim
JOHNNY NELSON confirmed on Sky's weekly
Ringside programme his next defence of the WBO
cruiserweight title would be against southpaw
former IBF champ Vassllly Jirov in April.
But this is news to his promoter Frank Warren,
who said he hadn't made the match.
Jirov, I believe, will next box Kelvin Davis for
the vacant IBF title, possibly on Don King's March

FOR AS long as I can
remember, a draw has
never been given in an
ABA bout. I wish to
seek your views and
the thoughts of other BN readers
on whether they should be.
A draw could happen at club shows only
after a bout when a judge has both boxers
level on scoring blows on his/her hand-held
machine.
It seems a pity to have to plump for the
boxer who led off more, or had the better
style, or better defence.

LANGLEY AND FOWL SQUARE OFF
• JUICY tidbit planned for Terry Smith's South Norwood and Victory show at
Fairfield Halls, Croydon on Tuesday (February 3): European Champs-bound
DARRAN LANGLEY V JAMES FOWL at light-flyweight.
"Dave Pocknell [Hollington coach] rang and asked me if I wanted it," said
Fowl's trainer at Haileybury, Sab Leo.
"I said yes because James won't get any action in the ABAs until much later.
It's made at 49 kilos."
