Don's not kidding
• LOOKING to make sure his October 2 show in
Madison Square Garden, New York is a success at the
box-office, promoter Don King has signed light-heavy
Elvir Muriqi, the "Kosovo Kid" who recently ditched
trainer Teddy Atlas for Harold Knight.
Muriqi lives in the Big Apple and has a local
following. The 25-year-old has lost only one of 30
starts, winning 17 inside the limit, but I don't see him
making an impression at the highest level.
King called him, "Good-looking, tough and a hot
ticket-seller. That's a tough combination to beat."
Main event at the Garden is Felix Trinidad's
comeback against Ricardo Mayorga, plus there is
the excellent WBA/WBC cruiserweight title unification
clash between Jean-Marc Mormeck and Wayne
Braithwaite. Two other title fights are

Enzo's new man
• ENZO MACCARINELLI has a new challenger for his
WBU cruiserweight title defence in Newport on July 3
after Chilean veteran Carlos Cruzat pulled out.
The Swansea puncher takes on Ismael Abdoul of
Belgium.
Abdoul's last fight was at light-heavy and our Dutch
correspondent Rinze Van Der Meer said Ismael can still
make 12st 7lbs with some ease.
The Belgian must be tough, though. He went 12 with
Italy's Vincenzo Cantatore for the European cruiser title
in March - losing widely on points - and 10 with tall
Ruediger May for the EU belt in May 2003.
Maccarinelli is also tall (6ft 3in) but a much harder
puncher than May.
Abdoul, 27, has been stopped only once from five
defeats against 21 wins.

Lee agony
• UNBEATEN British Masters light-welter champion
Lee McAllister, 21 and winner of 13 of 14 fights, is in
hospital in Crete following a serious motorbike crash.
The Aberdeen boxer, who has twice packed out the
Beach Ballroom in his home city, required emergency
surgery.
He was apparently lying on the road for 90 minutes
before being discovered.
Our best wishes go to Lee, who has been joined in
Greece by his family.

• MARK WRAY was adamant his
Sussex side deserved to win seven of
eight bouts against Leonis ABC at
Jersey's Royal Hotel.
Mark's Sussex Select ran out 5-3 winners,
but for the Southwick coach Kaine Allday
and Nicky Jenman - who has been on the
wrong end of a succession of tight decisions
recently - should also have had their hands
raised against Ben Cairney and Paul Young.
"I thought it was another terrible result for
Nicky - an awful decision," said Mark.
