Temple's call
• ALAN TEMPLE wants work, but at lightweight. The
31 -year-old Hartlepool southpaw, who returned in May
after 18 months out, said he's willing to box anyone in
the British top 10.
"I've been offered fights, but at light-welter," he
said. "When I made the decision to come back, it
was to win a title at lightweight."
This Alan did in his last fight, beating Silence
Saheed in the eighth by disqualification for the
Masters crown. But Temple wants the British.
"I asked the Board to put me in an eliminator, but
they told me to beat someone in the top five first. I'm
available to fight, but I suppose the top guys will think,
'Who needs Alan Temple?'
"Is there anyone in the top 10 willing to fight me?
I'm in perfect shape. I've had only a few weeks off
since the last fight and I'm always in the gym. I'll take
anyone under 10st."
Corrie in Germany
• CORRIE SANDERS is to fight on. The hard-hitting
veteran South African, beaten last time out in April by
Vitali Klitschko for the vacant WBC heavy title, will take
on an unnamed opponent in Germany in December.
Sanders, 38, is to be promoted by Universum, who
have him under a three-fight agreement following
Corrie's win against Wladimir Klitschko to win the WBO
belt in March 2003.
Scott in a rush
• HARD-TALKING and hard-hitting super-middleweight
contender Scott Pemberton has issued a challenge to
the world champions to face him.
Pemberton takes on James Crawford, a former Joe
Calzaghe victim, at Foxwoods in Ledyard on October
29 and shouldn't have too much trouble winning.
If he does, Pemberton doesn't deserve to face the
men he's calling - WBC champ Markus Beyer and new
IBF king Jeff Lacy.
Pemberton admitted Lacy looked impressive beating
Syd Vanderpool earlier this month, but said he'd sparred
Beyer in the past.
Scott's manager Jimmy Burchfield said the German
camp had previously rejected a $500,000 offer to
defend against Pemberton. Following Beyer's win
against Cristian Sanavia to regain the title, Burchfield
said: "The offer's back on the table."
Pemberton, at 37, is a man in a hurry. "If Mikkel
Kessler doesn't want to box Danny Green [for the
WBC's interim belt], I'll fight him after beating
Crawford."
Hunter defends
• MICHAEL HUNTER'S British super-bantamweight
title defence against Londoner Marc Callaghan has
been approved by the Boxing Board and will go ahead
at Hartlepool Borough Hall on November 19.
Former heavyweight Dave Garside promotes the card
without television and has Kevin Bennett defending his
Commonwealth lightweight title against Dean Phillips
on the same bill.
The vacant British bantamweight title clash between
former European and IBO champ Noel Wilders and
former top amateur Martin Power will go ahead in
December.
