Hall of Famers
THERE is a class list of new inductees to the
Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota on June 13.
From the modern era is Ghana's Azumah
Nelson, welterweight Carlos Palomino (pictured
above left), former light-heavy and cruiserweight
champ Dwight Muhammad Qawi and craggy
Mexican super-bantam Daniel Zaragoza.
The old-timers list includes Baby Arizmendi,
Young Corbett III, Jackie Fields, Willie Ritchie
and Billy Edwards.
Also to be inducted are South African referee
and judge Stan Christodoulou. Philadelphia
promoter Russell Peltz, manager Umberto
Branchini and Lou Viscusi.

Bobby's Belt stolen
BOBBY VANZIE'S Bradford house was broken
into on Tuesday afternoon while he was at the gym
training and while his wife was upstairs with the
couple's children.
Vanzie's coveted Lonsdsale Belt was stolen and
the former British lightweight champion is offering
a reward for any information leading to its recovery.
Vanzie was quite philosophical when I spoke
with him, admitting it could have been much worse
if any members of his family had been hurt.
But it was clear he was upset at losing the Belt.
"When I think of what I went through to win it,"
he said. "I just want it back."
Vanzie kept the Belt with his others on display in
a glass cabinet in his living room and said whoever
stole it was in his house only a short time.
The Belt is clearly his as his defences are
inscribed on it.
Anyone with information can contact us and we
will pass it on to Vanzie or the authorities.

Magee reward
BRIAN MAGEE'S popular stoppage victory over
Frenchman Hacine Cherifi in Belfast last November
has encouraged promoters Ringside to return to
the Kings Hall when the southpaw next defends his
IBO super-middleweight belt on March 20.
No challenger has been named for the undefeated
Northern Irishman.

Murphy-Farnell
PREDICTABLE defence for Lawrence Murphy,
who flattened Wayne Elcock in the first round last
November to win the WBU middleweight title, is
against former champion Anthony Farnell on the
Scott Harrison-William Abelyan bill in Renfrew on
March 6.
Elcock, meanwhile, is training back at home -
in Paddy Lynch's gym in Birmingham - rather than
using Eugene Maloney's south London Fight
Factory under the supervision of his brother Frank
for previous fights.
Elcock makes his comeback next month
(Bethnal Green, February 7) and says he has
learned from the Murphy defeat.
Wayne Alexander also returns from defeat on
that show, possibly against Matt Scriven.
