Richard rematch
RICHARD WILLIAMS has received the go-ahead
to challenge Argentina's Sergio Martinez in a
rematch for his old IBO light-middleweight title.
Londoner Williams, dethroned on points by
Martinez last summer after twice flooring the
South American southpaw, had delayed his
decision whether to go through with the fight
because of a slight hand injury.
But the damage has cleared and Williams,
having regained the Commonwealth title in his
last fight, is ready to exact revenge at Belfast's
King's Hall on April 17.
It is the same show as Brian Magee's defence
of his IBO super-middleweight belt against
Fighting Nordin of Holland.

Arthur foe named
ALEX ARTHUR takes on Uganda's Michael
Kizza in hometown Edinburgh on March 27. It will
be a 12-rounder for an inter-continental title and,
of course, the Scot's first outing since his
devastating defeat by Michael Gomez to lose
his British super-feather crown.
Arthur has been training in Freddie Roach's
gym in Hollywood, California and sparring Nate
Campbell, who meets Robbie Peden in an IBF
eliminator this Sunday (March 14).
Apparently Alex has lost TOO much weight
while over there, such has been the intensity of
his training in the heat.
Kizza, 24, has fought for numerous titles in
Africa but seems to have found his level some
way short of Arthur's. All three of Kizza's defeats
are by stoppage.

Stewart-Sharmba
SHARMBA MITCHELL will defend his IBF
Interim light-welterweight title against Mike "No
Joke" Stewart at the MEN Arena, Manchester on
April 3. Top of the bill is Ricky Hatton against
undefeated Brazilian puncher Kelson Pinto.

Vital! back in LA
THE vacant WBC heavyweight title fight
between Vitali Klitschko and Corrie Sanders
will take place at the Staples Center, Los Angeles
on April 24.
It is the venue where Klitschko gave Lennox
Lewis such a torrid time last June.
The same card will feature the return of
former world welterweight champ Vernon
Forrest, who takes on Teddy Reid over 10
rounds at light-middle in his first fight under
trainer Emanuel Steward.
New WBO light-heavyweignt champ Zsolt Erdei
also appears on the card, in a non-title match.

Olympic fever
• IT'S a big week for Olympic
qualifying with events on three
continents: the Americas in Tijuana,
Mexico (March 12-20), Africa in
Gabarone, Botswana (March 15-22)
and Asia in Guangzhou, China (March
18-26).
Repton's ANDREW WALLACE is
going to Mexico to represent Jamaica
at feather while clubmate TONY
CESAY represents Sierra Leone at
light-welter in Botswana.

Lewis stars
RETFORD, Notts - February 27
• JUNIOR Chris Lewis of Heath Town
ABC in Wolverhampton had his second
club bout in quick succession after his
handlers appealed in desperation in BN.
Lewis, who nearly quit because he
wasn't getting bouts, apparently looked
superb outhustling Lee Appleyard of
Rotherham ABC for a points success.
