SOUTHERN Area featherweight champion Paul Huggins, of Hastings, gained revenge for
one of his two pro defeats in 18 fights (the other loss being to Barry McGuigan), when he
produced a stunning left hook to stop Nottingham's awkward Gerry Beard in the third of a
scheduled eight threes main event at the Anglo-American Sporting Club.
The left hook knocked Beard senseless and he fell backwards, with the ropes luckily
breaking his fall to some extent. Referee Sid Nathan took one look at him and waved his
arms at the count of four and at the same time as the bell. The time of the stoppage was two
minutes 57 seconds of round
three.

COMMONWEALTH flyweight champion Keith Wallace
takes another important step in his fast moving career when
he meets USBA flyweight champion Henry Brent over 10
rounds at the Bloomsbury Crest Hotel tonight (Friday).
The match is an astute piece of work by Frank Warren,
Wallace's manager and the Bloomsbury promoter. Brent is
not an outstanding fighter, though ranked No 7 in the world
by the WBA, and a win by Wallace would catapult him into
the organisation's top 10 and make him eligible for a world
title challenge with impressive
credentials.

ALEXIS ARGUELLO may not be the first man in boxing
to have won three world tides, but he must surely be the
only boxer to have relinquished all three. Alexis gave up his
featherweight and junior-lightweight titles due to weight
problems, and has now given up his WBC lightweight title.
One sad reflection on the normally "perfect" Alexis has
been his attempts to blame his loss to Aaron Pryor on his
trainer Eddie Futch. Eddie is one of the most respected and
experienced men on the boxing scene and Arguello's claim
smacks of the reaction of a bad loser.

HOST club heavyweight Del Walters took particular pleasure
when he outpointed Treforest's Stephen Jones on the
Ogmore Valley show at Ogmore on March 3, for Jones is one
of the few boxers to hold a decision over Walters.
The Ogmore boxer, who continues to improve quickly,
seized the initiative and once in control kept on top to earn a
unamimous decision. A highly popular verdict.

HERE was a shock exit from the ABA championships at the Northern Counties (quarter
finals) stage at Liverpool Stadium for England feather Mohammad Hanif (Stockton), a
former champion, who dropped a controversial points decision to Kevin Taylor (Middleton
& Rochdale).
