ERROL CHRISTIE (left) and Jimmy Price (above), the young
lions of the middleweight division, both won with stoppage
fourth round victories last week to hammer out warnings to
new British champion Mark Kaylor. Mark can expect strong
challenges from either of the unbeaten prospects in the next
18 months. Reports on pages 3 and 5.

FORMER European and British heavyweight
champion JOHN L. GARDNER looked a shadow
of the busy, threshing-machine of a
fighter he was at his peak when he won on
disqualification against American Lou Benson
in the eighth of their scheduled 10-rounder.

T. P. JENKINS, the Brentford middleweight, notched up the best win of his short,
unbeaten career so far when he deservedly outpointed Swindon's former amateur international
Cameron Lithgow over eight enthralling rounds in the main event at the Elephant &
Castle Leisure Centre. It was Jenkins' seventh win with two draws.

JOHNNY BUMPHUS is becoming known as the game's
most patient fighter. The gifted southpaw lightwelter has
, earned a world title fight but, at the time of writing, negotiations
were still in progress.
Bumphus is the World Boxing Association's top-ranked
challenger to Aaron Pryor. But Pryor considers a defence
against Bumphus not to be worthwhile.

IT was a satisfying night for the family of pop star Boy
George at the Fisher Club presentation disco at Downside
Settlement, Bermondsey, when light-middleweight Gerry
O'Dowd received an award as Fisher's outstanding senior
prospect.

EAST London rivals JAMIE HOWLETT of the promoting
club, and TONY BOWDEN from neighbouring Repton
provided fans with a highly entertaining local derby at
the West Ham tournament at Barking Assembly Hall.
Many could not separate the pair at the finish of their
thriller. Repton thought their man had done enough, while
home supporters went for Howlett. So did the judges who
voted for Howlett.
