IT WAS the appropriate site to gather American top brass: the

VIOLENT death visited both the Arena Coliseo in Mexico

incident involved a boxer.
Roberto "Tio" Jimenez was shot to death in the ring at
the Arena Coliseo. Tio, one of Mexico's top trainers had just
climbed into the ring to congratulate his fighter Jaime Casas
who had stopped Arturo Hernandez in the 10th round
of their featherweight bout.
Suddenly, without any warning a man fired down from
the balcony surrounding the ring and shot Tio in the chest.
There was no apparent motive for the murder.

SMOKIN' Joe Frazier last week defended his decision to
match his son Marvis with Larry Holmes, WBC
heavyweight champion. The fight is scheduled for Atlantic
City on September 23 to be promoted by Bob Arum in
association with Joe Verne who has a promotional agreement
with the Fraziers.

THE emergence of British and Commonwealth
middleweight champion Roy Gumbs as a demolition king in
international boxing is tremendous news for British boxing.
And all the more exciting because of the continued success
of young Mark Kaylor, due to challenge Gumbs for his title
in the autumn, plus the rise of other splendid 1601b prospects
in Errol Christie, Gary Hobbs and Jimmy Price.
