BRISTOL southpaw Chris Sanigar, looking relaxed
and comfortable at a career-heaviest lOst
91bs, whacked substitute Geoff Pegler to
knockout defeat in 35 seconds of the third of
their scheduled eight rounds main event on
promoter Greg Steene's entertaining Porchester
Hall bill, writes HARRY MULLAN.

CLIFF GILPIN earned a second shot at the British welterweight
title with an impressive ninth-round stoppage of
Scottish rival Charlie Malarkey at Glasgow's Holiday Inn,
writes JOHN MORRISON.
It was a fine victory for Gilpin, marred by a dispute over a
late punch which Golpin delivered flush on Malarkey's chin.
With both hands by his sides, the Glasgow boxer took the
full force of a sweeping left hook after the bell ended the
eighth round.

BUSTER DRAYTON, Philadelphia journeyman lightmiddle,
seemed to be going from opponent to contender
after his big second round stoppage over highly regarded
Clint Jackson in May. He followed up with a 10-round
decision win over the WBA lOth-rated Patrizio Diaz, of
Argentina.
But it was back to reality for the 29-year-old Drayton as
he lost a split 10-round decision to Mario Maldonado, a
Puerto Rican counter puncher from New Jersey, over
ESPN-TV from Resorts International casino hotel, Atlantic
City on September 1.
Drayton, sparmate to Marvin Hagler and now fighting
out of Brockton, Massachusetts, is a tough fighter but lacking
in the ring savvy department.

THE bundle of fighting fury known as Aaron Pry or again proved too tough, too hardhitting
and ultimately too much of a fighter for Alexis Arguello in their rematch on a
hot night outdoors at Caesars Palace.
Arguello, former world champion at three weights and seeking an unprecedented
fourth title in his final fight, hit Pryor with some tremendous punches but took severe
punishment himself before sinking to the floor to be counted out after one min 48secs
of the 10th round as Pryor retained his WBA light-welterweight title for the eighth
time.

CORNELIUS BOZA-EDWARDS, the former WBC
junior-lightweight champion floored Rocky Lockridge
in the first round but then let the fight slip away from
him and was soundy outpointed over 10 rounds in the
chief support to the Arguello-Pryor rematch.
The defeat appears to have removed Boza from
contention as a world title challenger. Lockridge, making
his debut as a junior-lightweight after two
unsuccessful attempts at Eusebio Pedroza's WBA
featherweight title, had Boza wobbling towards the end
of the fight but couldn't put him away.
