Arthur's ambition
FOLLOWING his swift win on the Joe Calzaghe-
Miguel Jiminez bill in Cardiff last weekend, Alex Arthur
is looking ahead to October 19, when he faces fellow
Scot Willie Limond for the vacant British superfeatherweight
title.
"I can see myself stopping him inside five rounds,"
said the confident Arthur. "Winning and keeping the
British title is of paramount importance to me and
means more than anything.
"Winning a Lonsdale Belt has been a dream of
mine. Then I want the European and Acelino Freitas for
the 'world' title because he's the best out there."
Arthur would also like to fight before his home
crowd. He explained: "When I showed off my WBO
Inter-continental belt to the town about 6,000 people
came out. Imagine would what happen if I was boxing
there.
"Although I am in the embryonic stages of my
professional career, I am developing well and believe I
can beat anyone in the country."
First, though, Arthur is to take a break. He has a
holiday planned in Majorca with his girlfriend and child.

Tapia tunes up
FEATHERWEIGHT champions Johnny Tapia and Julio
Pablo Chacon will tune up first before defending
against Marco Antonio Barrera and Scott Harrison
respectively.
Tapia is to defend his IBF title against Barrera in a
sensational match at the MGM-Grand, Las Vegas on
November 2, but first boxes a non-title 10-rounder on
September 6 in Santa Ana, New Mexico against an
opponent still to be decided.
Chacon, coming back from injury which postponed a
June defence against Harrison, springs back into action
in Mendoza, Argentina on August 31 against veteran
Victor Hugo Paz.
Presuming Chacon comes through unscathed, the
Argentine will defend against Harrison in Glasgow on
October 19

Corrales is back
DIEGO CORRALES, former IBF super-featherweight
champion, is ready to resume his career having spent
the best part of 20 months behind bars for spousal
abuse.
Corrales, beaten only by Floyd Mayweather in 34
fights, has been training in Las Vegas and is set to box
at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas on October 4,
the night before Mayweather next defends his WBC
lightweight crown against Jose Luis Castillo of Mexico.
The 6ft Corrales is expected to box as a lightweight
or light-welter in a series of 10-rounders before again
challenging for a championship.

Lloyd has Barney
LLOYD HONEYGHAN won the purse bids for
Matthew Barney's mandatory Southern Area supermiddleweight
title defence against Michael Bowen and
will promote the match at the Elephant and Castle
Leisure Centre on (Sunday) October 20.
