AMATEUR RATINGS:
NINO BENVENUTI, former World middleweight champion,
said the news of his return fight with Carlos Monzon was
" the best seasonal present I could have wished for." Benvenuti
was speaking at his home shortly after hearing the news that
a fight had been arranged to take place in San Remo between
March 15 and April 30.
PROMOTER George Parnassus has
signed Mexican bantamweights
Ruben Oiivares and Jesus Castillo for
a third world title fight on March 26
at the Los Angeles Forum.
It will be the first title defence for
Castillo, who took the crown from
Oiivares last October. Oiivares won
an earlier title fight with his fellow
Mexican on a unanimous decision.
Parnassus said he had decided to
put the two Mexicans against one
another for the third time, " because
they simply are the best bantamweights
in the world.
