Bami wants rematch
THE knock-on effect from my article on Ricky
Hatton a few weeks ago saw Francis Barrett
replying to the Mancunian, and now London
manager Anthony Gee has responded to the
Irish southpaw.
Gee manages Brixton's muscular Ted Bami,
who is the only man to have beaten Barrett as
a pro. Francis says the points verdict was unfair.
"So let's have the rematch like Barrett
suggested," said Gee. "Francis was offered the
fight for Portsmouth in May [Tony Oakey-Neil
Simpson undercard] and we were informed
Barrett or his camp turned it down.
"But let Barrett know we're only happy to
face him again, any time, any place. Bami has
beaten him before and will do so again."

Oakey next week
TONY OAKEY of Portsmouth is to make a
summer defence of the WBU light-heavyweight
title against Andrei Kaersten, an undefeated
Estonian with only seven pro wins, at York Hall,
Bethnal Green tomorrow week (Saturday July
20).
Kaersten has not boxed since narrowly
outpointing former Oakey points victim Butch
Lesley over 12 for the WBU Intercontinental
belt last September in London.
These two were supposed to meet in London
 

DEAN PITHIE has gone away,

tomorrow night (Saturday July 13)
returns to centre-stage with a bid
for the Commonwealth superfeatherweight
title before his
home fans.

Norton revs back
FOLLOWING Wayne McCullough's recent
approval for a licence to box again in Britain,
Stourbridge cruiserweight Robert Norton has
also been given the green light to resume his
career in the UK.
Southpaw Norton had his licence suspended
following a query on a brain scan, but was
successful in his appeal. He must, however,
have scans every six months and after tough
fights if requested to do so.
Norton's target is British champion Bruce
Scott, who has his sights on the vacant
European title.
