IT was inevitable OSCAR DE LA HOYA and FERNANDO
VARGAS, both of whom train in Big Bear, California,
would cross paths long before they are scheduled to
meet in Las Vegas on September 14.

In the semis he suffered a cut on the nose which caused concern, but as he
explained, "It was 'super-glued' yesterday [the rest day between the semi and final]
and to be honest I haven't seen it yet.
