UNBEATEN double heavyweight champion rounds off a
busy year when he defends his Commonwealth crown
against Dean Waters of Australia in the 12 round main
event at the Wembley Grand Hall (formerly the Conference
Centre) on Wednesday (December 2).
It will be Horace's fourth title fight of the year. He has
already beaten Dave Garside and Paul Lister in British and
Commonwealth title defences, as well as defeating Proud
Kilimanjaro of Zimbabwe in a fight where only the latter
crown was at stake.
PROMOTER Frank Warren's blood pressure must be at mega levels
with the collapse of his latest main event at the Albert Hall on
Wednesday (December 2) and the frenzied machinations to get the
replacement top of the bill fight British title status: Tony Wilson v
Blaine Logsdon now replaces Tony Sibson v Don Lee.
BRITISH light-welterweight champion Lloyd Christie won
a Lonsdale Belt outright when he sensationally stopped
challenger Chris Blake in one round at the Latchmere
Leisure Centre.
Blake, from Croydon, came into the fight with a record of
13 straight wins as a professional, but his challenge was
dismissed with almost contemptuous ease by the vastly
more experienced champion in this scheduled 12 rounder.
A RELENTLESS, merciless Julio Cesar Chavez pounded out his
greatest victory in an undefeated career as he overpowered Edwin
Rosar'o in the 11th of their scheduled 12-rounder to capture the
World Boxing Association lightweight title.
The 25-year-old Chavez, Mexico's newest ring hero in a proud
tradition of great fighters, will now relinquish the World Boxing
Council super-featherweight title that he had successfully defended
nine times.
