EDDIE COOL states in his New York Notebook that Lew
Jenkins lost his lightweight title to Henry Armstrong when
the fight was in fact a non-title bout between two champs.
Armstrong was welter kingpin and Jenkins lightweight
champ. He must be getting confused with the wrong Lew as
Armstrong won the lightweight title from Lew Ambers, who
took the title ofT Henry the next time they fought.
Lew Jenkins lost his lightweight laurels to Samuel Angott
on December 15, 1941.

THE chickens have finally come home to roost for the IBF
over their Japanese policy. Because the Japanese Boxing
Commission refused to recognise the IBF, the IBF allied
itself to a Japanese promoter and rated his fighters,
irrespective of their quality. Akio Kameda was a typical
example.

ROCKY LOCKRIDGE ripped the International Boxing Federation superfeatherweight
title away from the incredibly brave Barry Michael with a display of
non-stop, quality aggression in the unlikely setting of Blazer's Night Club.
Lockridge, the 28-year-old from Tacoma, Washington, pounded Michael into
retirement after the eighth of the scheduled 15 rounds. Michael had shown limitless
courage to stay on his feet throughout, but to go on would have been to risk more
serious damage than he had already suffered.
