BIRMINGHAM'S unbeaten Horace Notice held on
to his Commonwealth heavyweight title in impressive
fashion when he stopped Australian challenger Dean
Waters in the fourth of their scheduled 12 rounder at
the Grand Hall.
But sadly, the headlines that should by rights have
been his after his convincing victory over the brave
but limited Waters were stolen by the unsavoury
antics of Bobby Frankham.

PROMOTER Frank Warren pulled the chestnuts out of the
fire at the last moment when an excellent main event and
chief support saved what looked like a doomed Albert Hall
show.
There were only six fights as opposed to the usual seven
or eight and two of these were hastily arranged mismatches
which ended in the first round. But Nigel Benn's electrifying
seventh round knockout of American Reggie Miller and
Gary Stretch's nerve-racking points victory over Denys
Cronin made up for any deficiencies.

I T IS nice to see Don Lalonde ak a world champion, partially
for Dave W o l f s sake, but also because Don was on the
point of retirement early this year. The Canadian was
racked with muscular pain and had exhausted conventional
cures. He was then introduced to Ken Balson, who
practices a type of d e e p muscle massage, and Don showed
immediate and dramatic improvement. Now he is looking
to hold on to his title for a few years.
