PERSISTENCE paid off for Peter Harris as he earned a
shot at the British featherweight title with a 12-rounds
points win over Liverpool southpaw John Farrell at the
Midlands Sporting Club.
Harris' win in the official final eliminator set up an-all Welsh
battle for the British crown with champion Robert Dickie.
But within minutes of Harris' return to the dressing rooms, his
manager Alan Davies was calling for the Board of Control to take
action against Dickie.

He was presented with a magnificent Belt. What happened to it after that I haven't
the foggiest idea, until it popped up at Morecambe in May 1934 and was presented
by Deputy Mayor Councillor Wally Townsley to Tommy Marren of Burnley for
winning the Welterweight Competition for the Northern Area title. A wonderful
moment for Tommy, and which proved, if proof were needed, that he was one of
the top contenders at his weight.
