Ingle abroad
WHAT a pity Paul Ingle's supporters, who made
enough noise to give the impression the Ice
Rink in Hull was crammed when the
Scarborough man scored a terrific points victory
against Manuel Medina for the IBF title earlier
this month, will have to travel abroad to see the
new champion defend his title next year.
Promoter Frank Maloney says the promotion
lost £100,000 because only 1,600 of the 3,250
tickets available were sold.
Now the talk is of Ingle appearing on an HBO
card with Naseem Hamed defending against
American Junior Jones, while Paul takes on
veteran southpaw Kevin Kelley.

Hatton challenge
RICKY HATTON'S next opponent is former British
light-welterweight champion Mark Winters.
The fight takes place for Hatton's WBO
Inter-continental belt at Everton Park Leisure
Centre on December 11.
Some feel the match is an easy one for the
Manchester hope and it would seem that way in
light of Winters' six-round draw against James
Hare in Telford last month. But the Irishman is a
decent boxer and his skill could pose Hatton
with some problems.
At this stage in Hatton's development it would
appear a reasonable match or at least a step-up
from Bernard Paul, who retired against Ricky in
October.
The same Everton card will feature improving
Michael Gomez, the British super-featherweight
champion, who is expected to face a Mexican
opponent.

BUNNY JOHNSON, Britain's first black heavyweight champion,
will auction two pairs of his historic blood and sweat-stained
boxing gloves this month in a bid to help "rescue kids from the
streets".
They are the gloves Johnson wore when he beat Danny McAlinden
to become British champion in 1975.
He's also auctioning the pair he wore the night he won the British
light-heavyweight crown in 1977 by knocking out Tim Woods.

IF Ike Ibeabuchi can escape prosecution when he
goes to trial for sexual assault and other charges
on December 6, promoters Top Rank are interested
in signing him and furthering his career.
Top Rank matchmaker Bruce Trampler compares
the unbeaten Nigerian with Earnie Shavers
and already regards him as the best heavyweight
in the world.
