ENSLEY BINGHAM'S High Court case against the Board of
Control to reverse a decision declaring the British light-middleweight
title vacant ended in failure.
The judge ruled in the Board's favour after listening to evidence from both sides.
It is now expected that unbeaten punchers WAYNE ALEXANDER and PAUL
SAMUELS will meet for the vacant crown in the New Year, though it has yet to be
approved by the Championships Committee.
"We always felt we were right on this issue," said John Morris, Board Secretary.
"But I don't like actions against boxers. We don't want to hold Bingham back."

Harry Dhami warmed up for his New
Year challenge for the British crown

Doncaster trier Lee Bird in the main event
at the Prince Regent Hotel.
Dhami, tall with long arms, controlled the
pace, but Bird got close enough to share the
third and nick the fourth with his swarming,
hooking style, although this was not reflected
in referee Jeff Hinds' 6 0 - 5 4 score.
FRANK MALONEY, in association with local promoter
Mike Michaels, staged the first licensed professional
show in Cyprus with a six-fight card at the Lefkotheo
Indoor Arena in Nicosia.
It was watched by a small but vocal crowd consisting
mainly of British soldiers based on the island.
