Pele SPLITS from Brendan PELE REID, stopped in his last two fights, has parted company amicably with
Brendan Ingle, who trained and co-managed him.
The decision follows Reid's first-round defeat by American Orlin Norris at
London Arena on June 26, after which Ingle was criticised widely for accepting
the match.
"I've met with Brendan at his home and he's agreed to follow the
necessary steps in order to cancel our contract," said Pele, pictured, in
a fax to us on Monday.
"In short, Brendan's no longer responsible for my management
and training affairs. Upon the advice of a Boxing Board official, I've
asked Brendan to sign and forward the necessary documentation
to the Board as soon as possible.
"I've paid him for his management and training services for
the Norris fight and wish him and his family
every success for the future.

BEST remembered here for bursting Frank Bruno's
bubble in May 1984, James "Bonecrusher"
Smith, like most of the heavyweight champions
before and after him, fought on far too long.
Finally, the 46-year-old, who in December 1986
won the WBA crown by blasting Tim Witherspoon
to the deck three times at Madison Square
Garden, has announced he is quitting.
Why? Not because he is too old, but because
he has a shoulder injury which accounted for his
stoppage defeat by Larry Holmes last month and
to Joe Bugner in Australia a year ago.

ENSLEY BINGHAM is set to make a defence of his
British light-middleweight title on Jess Harding's
August 20 show, to be televised the following day
on BBC's Grandstand.
The trouble is, prospective challenger, former
Southern Area champion Delroy Leslie, is not a
British citizen.
Leslie, originally from Jamaica, made an application
in February, but the back-log could stifle plans
to match him against the hard-hitting veteran - for
the title, anyway.
Harding intends to stage the show in either London
or Manchester. "I'm open to offers," he said.

STEVE WOOD, partner to former Commonwealth champion
Steve Foster in Viking Promotions, repeated an oft-quoted
view when he said: "Boxing really is a mad, mad world."
Only his commitment to local boxers led to him going ahead
with this show at Bowlers after two postponements through
Injury. Wood said: "Promoters work hard now just to lose
money in the hope of getting a future TV deal.
