TONY AYALA Jnr, the former 1980s middleweight
sensation jailed for rape 16 years ago, is
to be released from Bayside State Prison in
Leedsburg, New Jersey on April 20.
It is almost certain Ayala, still undefeated,
will continue his career, even though he is 36.
The Texan puncher, expected to be released last
year, always claimed he would have beaten
Roberto Duran, Sugar Ray Leonard and
Thomas Hearns, all of whom went on to make
millions. He refused to comment on how he
would have fared against Marvin Hagler.

RIVAL promoters Bob Arum and Dan Goossen
are at loggerheads over whether the May 8
WBC super-bantamweight title fight in Las
Vegas between Erik Morales and Wayne
McCullough should take place with open
scoring.
Arum wants the revision to be made so the
Press and public can be aware of the scoring, but
Goossen, who promotes the Irishman, opposes
the idea, as do I.
"Nevada have competent officials," argued
Goossen. "It was be the wrong message to send
out for the state of Nevada."

JOHNNY NELSON'S co-manager and trainer
Brendan Ingle, who the previous day had
received his MBE at Buckingham Palace for his
work with 'disadvantaged' kids in Sheffield, was
almost as furious as Carl Thompson afterwards.
He accused Naseem Hamed, his former star
pupil, of trying to entice the new WBO cruiserweight
champion away weeks before this showdown.

CENTRAL Area light-welterweight champion RICKY HATTON, a
blistering second-round winner over Tommy Peacock last time
out at Oldham in February, gets what appears to be a much
easier task against Birmingham veteran BRIAN COLEMAN over
eight rounds on the Albert Hall undercard.
Hatton, nicknamed "The Hitman" because of his undoubted
power and latest Young Boxer of the Year as agreed by the
Boxing Writers' Club, has won all 11 outings thus far, eight
inside schedule. He looks certain to improve on those statistics
against Coleman, particularly over the longer distance.

kTHE DEATH has been reported of Sid
'Hart, former Croydon light-heavy, who
passed away on February 9 after a long illness.
He boxed from 1937-1945. Sadly, Sid's wife
May died just before Christmas at St
Christopher's Hospice, to which Croydon EBA
is making a donation in Sid's name.
