A DRAMATIC heavyweight clash scheduled for four rounds produced
an upset win in 114 seconds for LUKE SIMPKIN.
Big and popular PAUL BUTTERY, a 16st 10lbs southpaw from Preston
making his debut, certainly looked the part physically and seemed booked
for an impressive win when sending Simpkin (16st) crashing so hard with
a hefty right uppercut, the Swadlincote man got up at four shaking the
cobwebs from his head.
But instead of finishing Simpkin off, Buttery allowed Luke time to recover
and, worse still, space to hit back.

THE first of the magnificent new Northern Area championship belts, sponsored and supplied by the
Boxing Academy at Peterlee, will be up for grabs on Dave Garside's afternoon show this Sunday (Feb
11) at the Mayfair Suite, Seaton Carew, Hartlepool, writes JOHN JARRETT.
That's when local favourite Ian Cooper clashes with North Shields hardman Mike White for the vacant
super-middleweight title. Cooper, 1997 English ABA middleweight champion, has racked up four straight
wins since making his debut just over a year ago and stopped another North Shields man in Ian Toby in this
ring last October.
That form can see him overcome an opponent who struggled to beat Chris Crook in October, his only fight
since last February.
Local lightweight James Rooney brings his 6-0 record to a ring where he has beaten both Nigel Senior
and Duncan Armstrong. Rooney must be favoured against Birmingham's oft-beaten David Hinds over sixtwos.
Hinds turned 30 last month, has a 6-33 pro log, and returns to the North East two years after dropping
a decision to future British super-feather king Michael Gomez in Newcastle.

RONNIE DAVIES won a Southern Area title as a
boxer and guided Chris Eubank to 'world' title
honours as a trainer, but is now setting his
sights on being a successful promoter.
If his debut promotion at the Town Hall is anything to go by, that
success looks assured. A sell-out crowd enjoyed seven fights, the local
south-coast fighters winning six of them. All but a handful of spectators
went home happy.

THE Grange ABC in Birchington, Kent
received a visit from Commonwealth heavyweight
champion Danny Williams and British
light-middleweight king Wayne Alexander last
month.
The South London pair, who both boxed for the
Lynn in their amateur days, signed autographs
and showed off their belts to the lads at the club.
