RAY CATTOUSE (above) removed any lingering doubts about his right to the British light
weight title with a thrilling last-round stoppage of Scottish challenger Dave McCabe in Glas
gow this week. Full report and more pics on pages 2-3.

SOUTHERN AREA bantamweight champion Dave Smith
battled through 12 ferocious rounds to outpoint Belfast's
Davy Larmour in a thrilling final eliminator for the vacant
British title . . . but he may have to do it all again to get the
title.

THE blend of force and crispness that has brought Cliff
Gilpin 12 successive wins since turning pro last year was in
evidence once more when he knocked Steve MacLeod to
the canvas five times on his way to a fourth round victory at
the Wolverhampton Sporting Club.

LAS VEGAS - March 22: Salvador Sanchez, of Mexico,
retained his WBC featherweight title for the fifth time with a
predictably easy won over Spain's Roberto Castanon, the
European champion, who was rescued by referee Davey
Pearl after 69 seconds of the 10th round at Caesar's Palace.

THE hustling young promoter Butch Lewis obviously believes
in quality rather than quantity. He only handles a
small group of fighters, but what fighters!
Butch has guided Mike Spinks to the top spot in the lightheavyweight
rankings and has Greg Page rapidly climbing
the heavyweight ratings.

NINE times junior champion Errol Christie gave notice that he
will be a force to be reckoned with in the senior ranks as well.
Looking rutnlessly determined the Triumph ABC 17-year-old
crushed Reading's 1978 titleholder Earl Henderson with a stunning
left hook with only five seconds remaining of the first round.
It was an impressive performance which stamps Christie as a
front runner for this year's ABA light-middleweight title.
