IAN COLBECK, the Darlington Express, steamed to his
fifth inside schedule win of the season in a Tyneside select's
5-4 victory over Esbjerg BK of Denmark at the Gosforth
Park Hotel.
Perpetual motion Colbeck, 19, a southpaw feather in the
Dave Williams mould, shelled Henning Haestrup, scorning
defence until the Danish corner tossed in the towel after one
minute 16 seconds of the second.
It was Colbeck's seventh win in an unbeaten run this
season.
The Geordie team's victory, however, on the dinner show
promoted by Perth Green ABC in conjunction with the
Childrens Crisis Committee and in aid of the NSPCC, was a
disputed one.
BOZA-EDWARDS rates third place for shocking Limon and
then stopping Chacon. But the Navarette defeat cost him a
higher place.
Boza was 5-2 underdog, boxing in front of Limon's fanatical
supporters and seemed to have to outbox the Mexican to
stand a chance of pulling off a win.
But the African stood close and outfought the tough-guy
champ to take a unanimous decision. Limon called Boza 'a
weak man' before the fight and predicted a 10th round kayo.
But Boza stormed into him from the first bell and took
control. Boza was fouled blatantly in the second - referee
Dick Young took no action - and was shaken in the third, but
Boza put Limon down with a fast left in the fifth and from then
on kept his nose ahead.
