ONCE the WBA had sent Mike Weaver a cable saying they
would not sanction any fight for the WBA heavyweight title
with any other contender but James Tillis, Mike had little

contract.
COLOURFUL home town hero Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini
retained his NABF lightweight title and set up a WBC
championship fight against Alexis Arguello by pounding
out an overwhelming unanimous 12-rounds decision over
southpaw Mexican champion Jose Luis Ramirez.
Ramirez, the WBC's No. 3-rated contender, was unable
to keep Mancini at bay. He tried to jab and counter from his
southpaw stance but Mancini attacked from the side with
left hooks to body and head. Time and again he crashed in
rights to the chin through the centre pf the Mexican's guard.

death last week of an East London coach and former North
West London divisional heavyweight champion, following a

who joined the training staff of Leyton and District ABC
early last season, are not satisfied with an internal investigation
and are pressing for a public inquiry.
