GLOBE-TROTTING Cornelius Boza-Edwards finally
emerges from the boxing wilderness in Stockton on Sunday
when he challenges rugged WBC junior-lightweight champion
Rafael 'Bazooka' Limon.
It's at last a breakthrough for the likeable Harrow-based
African, whose career for so long seemed to be going nowhere.

BRITISH featherweight champion Pat Cowdell keeps busy with a
seemingly undemanding 10 rounder against substitute Modesto 'Torito'
Gomez at Wolverhampton Civic Hall on Monday.
Pat was hoping to crash the world ratings with a win over Bashew
Sibaca, but the plans were dashed when the South African pulled out
to concentrate on a March 28 world title fight (see page 15).,
Ron Gray, manager of Cowdell and promoter at the Civic, released
Sibaca from the contracted Wolverhampton date on the understanding
Pat gets first crack at the title, should Sibaca upset WBA
champion Eusebio Pedroza.

M A T T H EW SAAD MUHAMMAD came from behind
once again to overpower and stop challenger Vonzell
J o h n s o n in the 11th round at Vally's Park Place Casino
Hotel to make his sixth successful defence of the WBC lightheavyweight
title.
The 6ft 4in Johnson, f r om Columbus, Ohio, towered over
Muhammad and appeared to be leading comfortably after
five rounds. But the tremendous strength and superior
punching power of the champion ultimately proved too
much.
