MARVELLOUS M a r v i n Hagler puts his world
middleweight title on the line against rugged Mustafa
Hamsho tomorrow (Saturday). We assess his chances on
pages 12 and 13.

IRISH featherweight hope Barry McGuigan got back on
the winning trail with a hard fought eight round decision
over previously unbeaten Belgian Jean Marc Renard.
But it proved a desperately hard struggle for the 20-yearold,
and Renard's contribution to a memorable battle met
with a shower of nobbins from the sell-out crowd at the
Ulster Hall.

SALVADOR SANCHEZ and Sugar Ray Leonard have
hogged the headlines in Las Vegas, but there is still plenty of
bread and butter action in the desert city.
"Lightnin' " Bruce Finch, the NABF welterweight
champion, topped the show at the Silver Slipper and had an
easy night against Sonny Perez of San Antonio.
Bruce used a series of combinations to stop poor Sonny in
round two

IT'S youth and unquenchable desire for victory against
experience and ring maturity when Ohio's excidng, 20-
year-old Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini comes out punching
against modern master Alexis Arguello for the World
Boxing Council lightweight title at Atlantic City, New
Jersey, tomorrow (Saturday, October 3) afternoon.
Arguello, the Nicaraguan exile now living in Florida,
will be making his first defence of the WBC title he took
from Jim Watt at Wembley in June.

FANS IN the arena and watching on TV
are likely to see Marvin Hagler given his
most difficult fight for a long time by the
curly-haired, sturdy-chinned Syrian Mustafa
Hamsho, whose swarming, brawling
style and stamina are expected to give him
a chance against the more polished Hagler
if the all-southpaw clash goes into the late
rounds..
