BILLY HARDY of Sunderland completed the double
over Holloway's Ivor "The Engine" Jones when he
outpointed him over 10 exciting rounds in the main event
at the York Hall.
But while his previous win, over eight rounds at the
Albert Hall in February, was controversial, there was no

BRITISH flyweight champion Hugh Russell has retired, at
25. Russell, known affectionately as "Little Red," has
turned his back on lucrative fights against Duke McKenzie
(in defence of the British title) and European champion
Franco Cherchi.

outpointed in a close bout by L/Cpl. Clark in the final of
the Army middleweight Championships. But what happened
after that was more like fiction than fact.
When I chatted with Peter recently he recalled subsequent
events. "Clark failed to report for the Imperial
Services Championships," he told me. "This of course was
the quarter-final of the ABA Championships.
