FORMER WBC lightweight champion Edwin Rosario of
Puerto Rico needed a surging late rally to edge out the
previously undefeated Frankie "The Surgeon" Randall of
Morristown, Tennessee in a dazzling 10-rounder at York
Hall.

RAY GILBODY, winner of three ABA titles, added the
British bantamweight title to his list of credits as he
stormed his way to a clear cut points verdict over
hometown favourite John Feeney on Mike Barrett's well
supported show at the Borough Hall.
Feeney's fervent hope of emulating brother George by
winning a Lonsdale Belt outright, was dashed at the final
bell when referee John Coyle raised Gilbody's glove.

THE LIGHT-MIDDLEWEIGHT division is beginning to resemble a Kronk Convention.
Thomas Hearns holds the WBC title, old boy Mike McCallum is the WBA
champion and David Braxton is about to challenge him for the crown, and now Duane
Thomas has emerged as a big threat to stablemate Hearns.
Only John Mugabi spoils the picture, but that's a mighty big only.
Braxton had an easy night in Detroit on May 5 as he knocked out poor Sam Leonard in
three rounds. Sam needs to be saved from some too brave management.

ONE COULD have learned how to promote and
how not to promote fight cards by analysing the one
held recently in Paris, where WBC welter champ
Milton McCrory pounded out a unanimous 12-
round decision over Pedro Vilella.
The how-to part was shown by promoter Bob
Arum. Television paid him half a million dollars for
the main event. It hardly mattered where the bout
was held or who was on the supporting card.

PINKLON THOMAS showed the boxing world he's got
to be respected as he flattened Mike Weaver with a big
right in the eighth round to retain his World Boxing
Council heavyweight title in a tough, exciting fight indoors
at the Riviera casino hotel.
