JIM ROCK is now chief support
on the Bernard Dunne show in
Dublin on Sunday after the Jason
McKay-Matthew Macklin Irish title
fight fell through.
Macklin suffered a rib injury
sparring.
Rock said he decided to box
after doing a five-round exhibition
with ex-Olympic champion Michael
Carruth last weekend
BOXING Board boss Simon Block
would like it pointed out that,
contrary to what we said last week,
the rules have not been waived for
the Newcastle tournament next
week but amended.
That is in regard to the
appointment of three judges.
Block said: "This might seem
slightly pedantic, but the Board
does not have the power to waive
its own regulations willy-nilly."
KEVIN ANDERSON makes his
mandatory British welterweight
title defence against EAMONN
MAGEE at the Fife Ice Arena,
Kirkcaldy on May 11.
Matchroom promote.
ROSS MINTER meets COLIN
McNEIL in a final eliminator for
the above title on May 26 on Frank
Warren's ExCel Arena show topped
by Michael Sprott-Matt Skelton.
Anderson's great mate BARRY
MORRISON defends his domestic
l0st title against COLIN LYNES
on lune 8 at Motherwell Leisure
Centre.
BIRMINGHAM heavyweight Pele
Reid proved he could battle through
a crisis against heavy-handed
Belarussian Roman S u c h o t e r i n at
the International Convention Centre.
The former British and
Commonwealth title challenger
was badly shaken in the fourth
before claiming a six-twos points
win on Ken Purchase's latest show.
Reid launched his comeback last
December after four years away with
a sixth-round stoppage of Paul King.
His limitations had previously
appeared to have been exposed by
stoppage losses to Julius Francis and
Michael Sprott. But he showed better
survival instincts here and deserved
credit for the way h e regrouped to box
his way to victory, despite suffering
with a cold.
